Here is our first newsletter of the new school year! I hope that everyone is having a good start to the year. I am really enjoying working with our students.
Quick note about homework: Homework will not be a regular part of class. The only time students will have work to take home is if it was not finished in class. Please check-in with them to make sure students get this work done so we can stay on-task in class.
In ELA, we are reading about the livelihood and lifestyle of Native Americans, especially before Columbus arrived. This week we are going to be talking about Birchbark House Chapters 2 and 3. Monday August 27 or Tuesday August 28 we will have a quiz on Chapters 1 & 2 of Birchbark House. Please take a look at the Parent Guide post for tips on books or stories you can read at home with your student and ways you can to help them build on what we do in class.
In Social Studies, we are also looking Native American groups. We just worked on some definitions for characteristics of civilization. This week we will use those definitions to look at how the Aztecs showed these characteristics of civilization. A quiz on those definitions and Aztecs will be Friday.
You can find a lot of these lessons by having students sign onto Clever.com and looking at Learnzillion and DBQ.
I am also going to post some free resources I have found to help you help your student(s). Many of these are from Jefferson Parish library.
Thanks for your involvement!!!
